Welcome to Edtech Deep!

Thanks for stopping by. This site was born out of my passion for international education and a deep desire to support the educators that teach around the world. My journey as an international school teacher and tech coordinator has taken me to incredible places and allowed me to connect with so many passionate people. And at this point in my own international ex-pat journey, though not based full-time in an international school, I still want to help! I am so excited to focus my energy on taking all I've learned and coaching, training, and creating resources to support fellow teachers through this unprecedented time in the world.

So what is Edtech Deep? Edtech Deep is the idea that technology will not solve your problems. Chasing the next app, platform, device, and toy is not going to change your classroom. It's not going to create authentic learning experiences. It's not going to give students better feedback, it's not going to automatically get students creating, evaluating and synthesizing. Not unless you go deeper. Not unless you dig below the flash and ask the tough questions. What do you hope to achieve? How will this help? Why is this better than what you were doing before?

The truth is that all of those amazing outcomes we want for our students have to come from us. We've all experienced someone touting a new tool that will change everything (and I confess, that's been me before!), but technology can only help you do better what you are already doing. An iPad itself will not change anything. A digital worksheet is a worksheet. A recorded lecture is a lecture.

Technology is meaningless unless we use it to do something different. Unless it makes something easier and more efficient. Unless it helps students go deeper into their learning or reach a wider audience. Unless technology makes collaboration or curation happen more often.

And so what excites me is digging deeper. Looking at the "why" of edtech and focusing on ed before tech. Always. If you're already excited about the possibilities technology offers and can't wait to dig in, or if you are, like me, a little skeptical and not so sure why you "should" use more technology in your classroom, I hope you'll find something here to intrigue you and pique your curiosity.

My ultimate goal is always to help educators do what they do better. To be a support, to offer tips and tricks, to be a sounding board, to be a mirror, to help you dig a little deeper, and to help cut through the noise to find the solutions that are true game-changers.

I look forward to the chance to have a deeper conversation with you! What are your feelings about educational technology?
